Overview:
PreRoll Post™ is an application that automates indexing your camera originals, complete with thumbs and metadata, while backing up full resolution media to local disk and long-term LTO-7, LTO-6 or LTO-5 tape.
PreRoll Post takes advantage of the Linear File Transfer System (LTFS) supported by tape drive manufacturers. The LTFS mounts a tape as a volume (hard disk) within Explorer. This makes it possible to write and read from the tape as if it were a disk without proprietary software or formatting.
LTFS also makes PreRoll Post hardware independent-you can use it with any LTFS compliant tape drive. Connect MagStor™ drives to Thunderbolt enabled PCs. Or connect a UNITEX LT60 with USB3.0. Or use a desktop Quantum, HP or IBM LTO drive connected to your desktop computer's SAS PCI card.
And PreRollPost works seamlessly with the Sony Optical Disc Archive (ODA) to efficiently make random access, rugged, long term Blu-ray cartridge archives.
The PreRoll Post software controls copy operations from field hard disks (created using ShotPut Pro™) onto tape(s). You may choose to make an additional copy onto local hard disk at the same time, or control two LTO drives simultaneously. All copies are verified using checksum integrity algorithms, such as XXhash or MD5.
Making LTO tapes for delivery to Discovery Channel is a snap. Just import the metadata template from Discovery's website and PreRoll Post sets up the needed folders for you. Then it checks each file as you add to the tape against Discovery Specs. So whether you're making Field Footage, Program Master or a Graphics Master tape, count on PreRollPost to help you right the first time.
The backup process is not specific to HD files; it may be used with any files. For example, you can back up NLE project files or entire hard disks if desired.
